DELTACOM SELLS ITS TRUNKING SYSTEM OPERATIONS
 TO WASHINGTON-BASED POWERFONE COMPANY
DETROIT, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Deltacom, a Detroit-based two-way radio sales, service and installation company, has sold its trunking systems to Washington, D.C.-based PowerFone Company. PowerFone has also bought the specialized mobile radio trunking facilities of Eric's Enterprises in Ferndale and the Michigan facilities of Boston-based Acticom Associates. When consolidated, PowerFone will become the largest trunking operator in the Detroit area, a new market for the company.
Trunking systems provide economical, yet private, two-way mobile communications for fleet operators and feature mobile telephone facilities like cellular telephones. The trunking mode allows a user direct private communications between vehicles in the fleet while also furnishing mobile telephone facilities.
John Zimmerman, president of Deltacom, said, "In selling our trunking facilities, we've provided our customers with the consolidated facilities PowerFone can now offer. The enhanced trunking system will provide our users with superior coverage, no-delay access, vehicle conferencing and data handling features. At the same time, Deltacom will be in a much stronger position to continue serving the mobile communications needs of PowerFone system users by offering system design, communications consulting, installation, and service. Deltacom will soon introduce data integrated services including vehicle tracking, site networking and UHF repeater trunking to provide value-added facilities to all PowerFone trunking users. In this situation, Michigan wins."
Deltacom has been designing radio communications systems locally for more than 40 years. Mobile Electronic Specialties has serviced all the facilities used by Deltacom and has provided the installations for Deltacom system users from its drive-through shop at 1321 W. Eight Mile Road, between Woodward and I-75 in Detroit. Phone: 313-368-1770.
