DELTA AIR LINES TO INAUGURATE SERVICE TO SOUTH BEND;
THREE DAILY FLIGHTS TO AIRLINE'S CINCINNATI HUB BEGIN IN FEBRUARY
SOUTH BEND, Ind,, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced that it will begin service between South Bend/Elkhart/Mishawaka, Ind., and the carrier's Cincinnati hub on Feb. 1, 1992.
Making the announcement for Delta, Ron Johnson, the airline's district director of marketing for Chicago and Northern Indiana, said: "We are pleased to announce that South Bend will become our 218th city worldwide when we inaugurate service here in February. The new link to Cincinnati will provide area passengers with important connections to points throughout the Delta system covering the U.S., Europe, Asia and the Middle East."
Delta's schedule features three round-trips each day from Michiana Regional Airport to Cincinnati, where the airline operates 158 daily flights to 59 nonstop destinations around the globe. The service will feature Delta's 98-passenger DC-9 aircraft.
"We are confident that Delta's new relationship with South Bend, Elkhart and Mishawaka will prove beneficial to the area, local travelers, shippers and the University of Notre Dame as we offer the convenience of Delta service here," continued Johnson.
In addition to Delta's new service, COMAIR -- The Delta Connection carrier -- will continue to offer flights from South Bend/Elkhart/Mishawaka to Cincinnati, giving area passengers even more options in choosing flight schedules. COMAIR's flights are coordinated with Delta's schedule to offer convenient connections to points around the world.
Delta greatly expanded its worldwide route network earlier this month, adding 21 cities in Europe, India and the Middle East. The airline now serves 55 cities in 32 countries outside the U.S. and will be adding service to Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, early in 1992. A leader in customer satisfaction, Delta has led the major U.S. airlines for the 17th consecutive year with the lowest rate of customer complaints to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Delta is one of the world's four largest airlines and currently serves a total of 214 cities in 33 countries. The carrier's fleet of 531 modern aircraft operates more than 2,780 flights each day.
