 DELTA AIR LINES TO DEFER AIRCRAFT ORDERS;
 SENIOR OFFICERS ASK FOR SALARY REDUCTION
 ATLANTA, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Ronald W. Allen today announced additional steps to return Delta to profitability.
 Those steps contemplate the deferment of up to an additional $1 billion in new aircraft orders scheduled for delivery to Delta during 1993 and 1994. The aircraft involved are being identified at this time and a final decision can be expected soon.
 While these aircraft deferments will taper Delta's growth plans, the airline anticipates modest growth to occur during the period. Earlier this year Delta reduced by $5 billion its capital spending plans involving aircraft purchases through the year 2001.
 Delta, in its cost reduction activity, had previously implemented a wage freeze and took action to bring its personnel benefits more in line with the industry. This involved reductions in benefits for the airline's personnel including senior management.
 Chairman Allen today announced that Delta's president and eight senior vice presidents have asked to take a reduction in pay averaging five percent effective Sept. 1. Allen said, "This action by the senior officers is important to show just how committed we all must be to reducing costs." Earlier this month Allen voluntarily reduced his base salary to the level in effect in September 1989.
