DELTA AIR LINES SEEKS NONSTOP ORLANDO - PARIS ROUTE AUTHORITY
ATLANTA, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today requested authority to provide nonstop service between Orlando, Fla., and Paris beginning June 4, 1992.
The request was filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Delta has maintained a long-standing interest in expanding its international operations from Orlando, where the airline operates a hub complex with 89 daily flights to 33 nonstop destinations. In today's DOT filing, Delta noted that no nonstop service currently exists between Orlando and Paris and that traffic demand now justifies the route. The airline indicated that Orlando is the largest U.S.-to-Paris market without nonstop service.
Subject to government approval, Delta's service will consist of four weekly round-trip flights operated with Lockheed TriStar aircraft configured in three classes of service and comfort. The airline has asked the DOT for expeditious approval of the application so that the proposed service may begin on the June date. The Paris flight would complement Delta's direct service from Orlando International Airport to Bermuda, Calgary, Frankfurt, Mexico City, Nassau, Tokyo and Toronto. Delta presently serves Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York and Tel Aviv nonstop from Orly Airport in Paris.
A major global airline, Delta serves 220 cities in 34 countries worldwide. The carrier has the distinction of earning the best overall record for passenger satisfaction of any major U.S. airline, based on consumer complaint statistics compiled by the DOT since 1971.
