DELTA AIR LINES ORDERS NINE AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A310-300S
WASHINGTON, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Airlines and Airbus Industrie announced today that Delta will acquire nine A310-300 widebody aircraft. Due for delivery beginning in the first quarter of 1993, the twin-engine long-range aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4152 engines.
The 179-seat, three-class A310-300s will operate primarily on the carrier's trans-atlantic routes principally from New York, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Frankfurt, Germany. The aircraft will join Delta's existing fleet of A310s.
The maximum take-off weight of 346,000 pounds and increased fuel capacity give the A310-300 a range of 5,700 statute miles with a full passenger and baggage load. Delta has the option to further increase this range to 6,100 statute miles.
"The Airbus A310 plays a key role in our European services," remarked Ronald W. Allen, chairman and chief executive officer of Delta. "We are pleased with the performance, operating efficiencies and passenger comfort of our current A310 fleet," he added.
Airbus Industrie's Managing Director Jean Pierson welcomed Delta's order and said, "Airbus Industrie recognizes Delta as one of the most respected carriers in the world. We are especially pleased that Delta, the largest A310 operator in the world, has made this decision and demonstrated its confidence in Airbus Industrie."
To date, Airbus Industrie has won 259 firm orders for the A310, of which 205 have been delivered. Total firm orders from the A300/A310 widebody family now stand at 716 from 79 customers worldwide.
