DELTA, THE OFFICIAL AIRLINE OF THE PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES,
FEATURES ITS SECOND FLOAT IN THE SPECTACULAR PARADE
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year, Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is the official airline for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.
Under the terms of the agreement, Delta will serve as the official airline for these events for the next four years.
"Delta is honored to be in partnership with the Tournament of Roses as the official carrier and is pleased to introduce its second float in the famous Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade," said Vince Durocher, Delta's district director of marketing for Southern California.
Delta Air Lines' entry in the 1992 Rose Parade is titled "Gulliver's Travels." The float is constructed to maximum dimensions allowed by the Tournament which is 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and rises from a height of 17 feet to a limit of 28 feet. The float is a giant figure of Gulliver from Lilliput complete with Lilliputians.
Gulliver is awakened and opens his eyes, turns his head, smiles and raises his left arm as the little people attempt to keep him contained while all the time teasing him with different tools and devices. Gulliver's smile is a Rose Parade first. The smile is accomplished by the utilization of a system called "animatronics," a system especially designed to generate and coordinate Gulliver's life-like expressions. And yet, the float abides with Rose Parade rules of being fully decorated.
The Lilliputians are children from the Los Angeles area recruited through Delta's Fantastic Flyer program, a program for kids. Once again, approximately three days prior to the parade, almost 1,000 Delta volunteers will apply the final details to this spectacular float.
Currently, Delta operates 105 flights daily from Los Angeles with nonstop service to 30 destinations. Delta recently inaugurated daily service from Los Angeles to its new transatlantic hub at New York's Kennedy Airport with continuing, same-plane service to Europe. During 1991, Delta expanded its Los Angeles gateway services adding MD-11 service between Los Angeles and Tokyo, L-1011-500 services between Los Angeles and Nagoya, Japan, and Los Angeles and Hong Kong. Delta presently provides service to 215 cities in 33 countries throughout the world.
