DELPHI JOINS PARTNER TO SUPPLY GEARS IN CHINA

SHANGHAI, China, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems and Dongfeng Motor Corporation today signed an agreement establishing a joint venture to supply rack and pinion gears for vehicles built in China. The joint venture will be called Shanghai Saginaw Dongfeng Steering Gear Ltd.

The announcement was made by Donald L. Runkle, General Motors vice president and general manager of Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems, at the signing ceremony in Shanghai today.

"The demand for steering system products in China's automotive sector will increase significantly in the next few years," said Runkle. "Delphi is fully committed to partnerships such as this to effectively serve this market."

Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems and Shanghai Shenhui Auto Steering Gear Corporation will be equal partners in the joint venture. Shanghai Shenhui Auto Steering Gear Corporation is an affiliate of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, with technical and administrative support from Dongfeng Automotive Propeller Factory, a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

Shanghai Saginaw Dongfeng Steering Gear Ltd. will begin production later this year in a new facility in Shanghai, Pudong Development Zone. The joint venture will be a supplier to most of China's OEMs.

A division of Delphi Automotive Systems, Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems designs, develops and produces steering components and systems for automotive applications, worldwide. Headquartered in Saginaw, Michigan, USA, it has operations in the United States, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific.

Delphi Automotive Systems has substantial investments in China, including the Delphi Steering agreements. "GM's commitment to China is both long-term and comprehensive," said J.T. Battenberg III, a GM executive vice president and president of Delphi Automotive Systems. "Delphi, along with our Chinese partners and suppliers, will effectively integrate our China-based component operations into our global network," he added.

Delphi Automotive Systems is comprised of six operating divisions and regional headquarters in Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America. In addition, Delphi now has nine joint ventures in China. It has over 174,000 employees at 194 locations in 37 countries, and operates 17 technical centers in various countries.
