DELMARVA POWER TO GIVE AWAY REFRIGERATOR KITS

DELMARVA POWER TO GIVE AWAY REFRIGERATOR KITS
WILMINGTON, Del., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Delmarva Power

(NYSE: DEW) is giving away 1,000 refrigerator efficiency kits through the company's environmental stewardship program, "Serving & Conserving Delmarva."
The refrigerator uses more electricity than any other appliance in the kitchen and its the third largest energy-user in the entire home (next to the heating/cooling system and water heater). "The purpose of the kits is to make people aware of the potential for saving energy through proper refrigerator maintenance," said Louise Morman, general manager of marketing, Delmarva Power. "It is part of Delmarva Power's overall effort to make people more aware of the link between energy conservation and environmental protection."
Each of the 1,000 kits being given away contains a coil brush and thermometers -- one for the refrigerator and one for the freezer.
When dust builds up on the refrigerator coils, they don't work as efficiently, so the refrigerator motor has to work harder -- which means it uses more energy. Cleaning the coils can make the appliance more efficient.
Keeping your refrigerator and freezer at the right temperature can also control energy costs. You should set your freezer at 5 degrees Fahrenheit and the refrigerator between 38 and 40 degrees. If these settings are colder than necessary, you are increasing energy consumption.
The kits will be distributed through a random prize drawing. Entry forms are available with May's energy bill and at all Delmarva Power district offices. The entry deadline is June 30, 1992. Winners will be announced in July.
Through a series of similar prize drawings over the last year-and-a- half, Delmarva Power has encouraged the public to save energy and help protect the environment by using energy-efficient products, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs, low-flow showerheads, and water heater wraps. Almost 120,000 people submitted entries to win one of these products.
