DELMARVA POWER TO GIVE AWAY 1,000 ENERGY-SAVING BULBS

DELMARVA POWER TO GIVE AWAY 1,000 ENERGY-SAVING BULBS
WILMINGTON, Del., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Delmarva Power

(NYSE: DEW) announced today that it is giving away 1,000 energy- efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs -- a previously successful activity in the company's environmental stewardship program, "Serving & Conserving Delmarva."
"Once again, the purpose of this program is to make people aware of the potential for saving energy through the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs," said Louise Morman, general manager of marketing, Delmarva Power. "It is part of Delmarva Power's overall effort to make people aware of the connection between energy conservation and environmental protection."
In 1991, the company sponsored a similar prize drawing for compact fluorescent light bulbs, and the customer response was overwhelming. Forty thousand people submitted entries to win one of the 1,000 bulbs.
A survey of more than 600 people who participated in last year's campaign showed that:
-- 90 percent of the bulbs are being used
-- 76 percent of Delmarva's customers are satisfied with the bulbs
-- 74 percent would buy a bulb in the future.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75 percent less electricity and last 10 times longer than ordinary incandescent light bulbs while producing similar light. Using fewer watts to light a bulb means using less electricity, which in turn helps to save energy, protect the environment, and lower electric bills.
The light bulbs -- each valued at $20 -- will be distributed through a random prize drawing. Entry forms are available with March's energy bill and at all Delmarva Power district offices. The entry deadline is April 30, 1992. Winners will be announced in May.
