DELMARVA POWER ANNOUNCES SOLAR ELECTRICITY PROJECT
WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Delmarva Power (NYSE: DEW)

will explore the use of solar electricity in an experiment next year, announced Howard E. Cosgrove, chief executive officer and board chairman, at Delmarva Power's Photovoltaics Conference today at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington.
Photovoltaics is a term for direct conversion of the sun's energy into electricity. Cosgrove said the company will gather more data on photovoltaics by installing an experimental photovoltaic system capable of producing 15 kW of electricity. When in use, this experiment could provide the monthly energy needs of two average residential customers.
The location of the experimental photovoltaics system is still under consideration. Data collected from this project should help Delmarva Power develop a strategy for the future use of photovoltaics on the Delmarva Peninsula.
More than 80 people gathered today to discuss photovoltaics applications at the conference hosted by Delmarva Power. Speakers included representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Edison Electric Institute, and Delmarva Power.
"The purpose of this conference is to bring together people interested in the development of photovoltaics and to collectively learn more about the technology," said Louise Morman, Delmarva Power's general manager of marketing. "Delmarva Power's interest in photovoltaics is part of our energy plan for the future called Challenge 2000, which calls for the company to 'Save Some' energy in addition to 'Buying' and 'Building Some.'"
