 DELL TO BEGIN MARKETING FACTORY-INSTALLED OS/2 2.0;
 ENTERS TECHNICAL SUPPORT AGREEMENT WITH IBM
 AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of its long- standing commitment to offer a wide range of industry-standard operating environments, Dell Computer Corporation today announced it will factory install IBM Corporation's Operating System/2 (OS/2) 2.0 on its personal computer systems beginning in October 1992. OS/2 2.0 represents a significant extension to Dell's factory integration capabilities and brings to seven the number of operating environments Dell customers are able to purchase pre-installed on their PCs. Dell also will factory install OS/2 Extended Services and OS/2 LAN Server products through its custom integration capabilities.
 In addition, Dell will offer the customer-installable, "shrink- wrapped" version of OS/2 2.0, to be marketed internationally in a variety of languages. Over time, Dell will also offer OS/2 2.0 as a factory-installed option to its international customers.
 Technical Support Agreement
 Dell also announced today a technical support agreement with IBM, under which the two companies will work closely together to ensure Dell's OS/2 customers receive a high level of support in resolving technical issues. For example, a Dell customer seeking assistance will call directly to Dell and, in most cases, the issue will be resolved through Dell's technical support group. In those cases where the issue is not resolved immediately, Dell will work with IBM's OS/2 technical support team to resolve the problem for its customers.
 "We're pleased to add IBM's OS/2 to the list of operating systems our customers can purchase pre-installed on their systems," said Joel J. Kocher, senior vice president of Dell USA. "This offering is an opportunity for customers to take advantage of OS/2's advanced features with a minimal investment of time and money."
 "This is a great opportunity for IBM and Dell to meet the increasing worldwide customer demand for OS/2, a true integrating platform that allows users to run their DOS, Windows and OS/2 applications," said Lee Reiswig, assistant general manager, IBM's Personal Systems Programming. "We are committed to providing OS/2 as a true industry-standard operating system for a broad range of PC hardware around the world."
 Priced at $149 with backup diskettes, and $129 without backup diskettes, Dell's offering of factory-installed OS/2 2.0 is competitive with shrink-wrapped versions of the software available elsewhere, but provides users with considerable time and cost savings by eliminating the need for on-site software installation.
