Versatile and Upgradeable
Dell's NetWare Lite systems are configurable as clients and servers and can share files with PCs on Novell's more sophisticated NetWare 2.2 or 3.11 networks. This makes Dell's NetWare Lite systems ideal for quickly and economically linking a group of PCs to an existing NetWare LAN.
Dell systems configured with NetWare Lite are intended to network offices of 10 or fewer PCs (most typically four to six PCs) where an inexpensive LAN can increase productivity through basic file and printer sharing. As needs grow, NetWare Lite users can transition their NetWare Lite network to include a NetWare 2.2 or 3.11 server without having to replace device drivers and network adapters. NetWare Lite's Open Data Link Interface allows additional network protocols such as IPX for standard NetWare or LAN WorkPlace for DOS for TCP/IP services to be used when needed. And support for NetWare IPX drivers allows NetWare Lite users to easily expand LAN capabilities as their needs expand.
An example of Dell's entry-level integrated network is priced at $3,797 and includes two Dell 325SX computers, each pre-configured with:
4MB RAM, 50MB hard drive, VGA color monitor and an arcnet network interface card;
Two copies of MS-DOS 5.0;
Two copies of Novell NetWare Lite;
Two copies of Microsoft Windows 3.0, and Microsoft mouse.
The package also includes 40 feet of cabling, connectors, one-year technical support and next-day on-site service.
The customer can build upon the basic offering by adding additional network nodes, applications software and upgraded services.
