DELL NAMES THOMAS L. THOMAS AND JOHN K. MEDICA TO KEY EXECUTIVE POSITIONS

 AUSTIN, Texas, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of an ongoing strategy to strengthen its management information services and product development capabilities, Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) today announced the appointment of Thomas L. Thomas to the position of chief information officer and John K. Medica to the position of vice president, portable products group. In his newly created post, Mr. Thomas will report to Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, and will have responsibility for all of Dell's worldwide management information systems. Mr. Medica will report to Glenn Henry, senior vice president of Dell's product group, and will oversee the design and development of Dell's portable line of personal computers.
 Mr. Thomas, 43, served most recently as vice president and chief information officer with Kraft Commercial Products, a $5 billion division of Phillip Morris Companies, Inc. There he had responsibility for managing the information services needed to support more than one million transactions with more than 150,000 customers each day. Before joining Kraft, Mr. Thomas served as vice president and chief information officer for PYA Monarch, a $3.5 billion food service subsidiary of Sara Lee Corporation.

He will bring a strong, innovative dimension to our distribution capabilities here," stated Mr. Dell.  Prior to his association with Sara Lee, Mr. Thomas served in various MIS positions with W.R. Grace & Company and Humana, Inc. He holds a B.S.B.A. degree from Bellarmine College in Louisville, Ky.
 Mr. Medica, 34, joins Dell from Apple Computer, Inc., where he served for the last 10 years, most recently as senior director for MacIntosh portable engineering. In that capacity Mr. Medica lead the team responsible for the design and development of the MacIntosh Powerbook product family.

 Mr. Medica holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University and an MBA from Wake Forest University.
