LAS VEGAS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) today introduced the Dell Dimension(TM) XPS P60 computer, designed for the "techno-wizard" -- the customer who wants the hottest new technology at an
attractive price. The new system incorporates PCI local-bus technology, the latest in high-performance peripherals, and the most powerful Intel-based processing power on the market.
Priced starting at $2,999 including a Super VGA color monitor, the Dell Dimension XPS P60 is scheduled to ship in late November, with availability in Canada on Dec. 1.
"The market is clearly readying itself for the next generation of processing power and Dell is right at the forefront with today's announcement," said Joel Kocher, Dell's president of worldwide sales, marketing and service. "Customers want speed, they want power, they want reliability. This product has it."
The new system incorporates the Intel(R) Pentium(TM) processor and PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) local-bus technology. "Dell firmly believes that to take advantage of the processing power of Pentium, the system must utilize local-bus technology," said Eric Harslem, senior vice president of Dell's product group. "We believe PCI is the local-bus technology of choice for Pentium systems because it ensures the fastest input/output performance and upgradeability for the long-term."
"With today's announcement, Dell is providing a balance between the technologies of tomorrow and the PC user's needs of today -- like integrating the hottest new audio and video technology for the next wave of power for today's XPS P60 customer," continued Harslem. "It's not just a matter of providing the latest technological advances at affordable prices, but it's really doing our homework to provide the right technologies for our customers."
 Dell Dimension XPS P60
The latest in a series of successful enhancements to the Dell Dimension line, the new Dell Dimension XPS P60 is the first Pentium processor-based system in the popular new XPS family and is designed for the "techno-wizard" -- the individual technology enthusiast and small- business/home-office user who requires the latest in technological advances at the most attractive price. This powerful new system incorporates the next generation of processing power from Intel and the latest in video and audio technology combined with the industry's latest peripherals. For example, the XPS P60 is available with the following features:
-- Industry-leading power -- a 60-megahertz (MHz) Pentium processor, fully optimized 64-bit architecture utilizing Intel's PeripheralComponent Interface (PCI) local-bus technology, an ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) platform,
-- State-of-the-art video -- No. 9 PCI video card, Sigma Design's ReelMagic M-PEG full-motion video card, Intel's Indeo(R) Video technology in a "greeting card" format,
 -- High-quality audio -- Dell-exclusive Peavey speakers, Soundblaster 16audio card,
-- Hot peripherals -- Toshiba and Panasonic double-spin CD-ROM drives, Aldus PhotoStyler software.
The XPS P60 is targeted at customers using Windows(TM)-based applications such as advanced spreadsheet and database programs, high- resolution graphics for desktop publishing and CAD (computer aided design) as well as compute- and graphics-intensive multimedia applications in the education and entertainment arena.
For example, an advanced user who has just powered through a spreadsheet on a Dell Dimension XPS, can relax by simply pushing the easy- slide door of the CD-ROM drive, putting in a music video compact disk and double clicking on the video icon. Instantly, a theater- quality, full- motion video appears as CD-quality sound comes from the PC speakers. Customers who are looking for full-motion video on their desktop can get it factory installed with their XPS P60 -- or any Dell Dimension system -- through Sigma Design's ReelMagic M-PEG full-motion video card, available from Dell beginning in January for $399.
As an added feature with multimedia configurations, all Dell Dimension XPS customers will receive a complimentary Indeo Video "greeting card" to help them "get acquainted" with their new PC. After a customer unpacks their system, attaches the cords and flips on the switch, a short, full- motion video clip instantly appears on the screen, welcoming them to their new Dell system.
This system comes standard with Dell's award-winning service and support including a one-year next-business-day, on-site service contract through BancTec Service Corporation; unlimited toll-free 7-day-a-week, 24-hour-a-day telephone support with guaranteed five-minute response; a system compatibility guarantee; and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
