DELL COMPUTER RECEIVES REQUEST FROM SEC

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 23 ~PRNewswire~ -- Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) today announced that it has received an informal request from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for information and documents concerning recent trading patterns in the company's common stock. The request is focused on securities trading surrounding the company's third quarter earnings announced Nov. 19, 1992, and on subsequent events prompted by remarks made by a Kidder Peabody analyst on the following day.
Shortly after the analyst's remarks on Nov. 20, Dell contacted the SEC to invite its investigation of what the company considered "false allegations that are seriously damaging the company, its officers, directors, employees and shareholders." The company is currently evaluating legal remedies.
"We are pleased that the SEC is moving so rapidly to investigate unusual trading in our securities, and we will cooperate fully and voluntarily with their investigation," said Richard Salwen, vice president and general counsel for Dell.
Dell pioneered the marketing, service and support of personal computer systems directly to end users, and its Dell brand of personal computers has become one of the leading brand names in the industry.
