DELL COMPUTER INDICATES RESULTS FOR FOURTH QUARTER; EXPECTS TO POST $2 BILLION IN SALES FOR FISCAL YEAR 1993

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) said today that it expects to post the fourth consecutive quarter of year-to-year sales growth in excess of 100 percent for the fiscal quarter ended Jan. 31, 1993.
The company expects fourth-quarter revenues to be in the range of $615 million, up approximately 115 percent over the comparable quarter a year ago. Revenues for the current fiscal year are expected to be slightly higher than $2 billion.
Dell also said it expects net income as a percentage of sales to be in the range of 5 percent, although the fourth quarter has just ended and the analysis of net income is not yet complete. Full results for the quarter are expected to be reported later this month.
"We are very pleased with the underlying strength of our business," said Michael S. Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, "but we had some initial problems ramping up shipments of our new products quickly enough to meet customer demand. This created higher-than-expected demand for our older products, and we did not have enough component supply to build all of the systems we needed. As a result, we were not able to take advantage of all the revenue opportunity we had in the quarter. Our vendors have worked very hard with us to resolve our supply issues and we are confident we can meet demand going forward."
A Fortune 500 company, Dell pioneered the direct marketing of personal computers in 1984 and was the first company in the PC industry to offer manufacturer-direct technical support. Dell is the third- largest, IBM-compatible personal computer company in the world, according to Dataquest, an independent market research firm.
