 DELL COMPUTER CORPORATION OPENS SUBSIDIARIES
 IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND POLAND
AUSTIN, Texas, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: Dell) today announced the opening of Dell Czechoslovakia, the first of two Eastern European subsidiaries that will begin operations this week.
The second is Dell Poland which will officially open its doors on Wednesday, May 13th. Dell Czechoslovakia will operate out of Prague and Dell Poland will be based in Warsaw. Both subsidiaries will offer a full range of high-performance, custom-configured, personal computers and computer systems, as well as a complete array of customer service and support features.
According to Andrew R. Harris, senior vice president of Dell International, "We believe the newly emerging democracies in Czechoslovakia and Poland represent excellent long-term growth opportunities for Dell." Harris noted that sales from Dell's international operations are growing rapidly and approximately doubled in the company's latest fiscal quarter (ended May 3, 1992).
As part of the launch activities in Czechoslovakia, President Vaclav Havel will meet with Dell chairman and CEO, Michael Dell. Dell had provided computers to the Czechoslovakian Government as early as June of 1990 for the tabulation of votes in the country's first democratic election.
Dell Czechoslovakia will be headed by Karel Stasney who, prior to joining Dell, owned and operated a computer consultancy specializing in network solutions based on Dell products. He has more than 15 years of previous experience in management positions with private computing firms, as well as state-operated computer ventures.
Mirek Wierzbowski will head Dell Poland, joining the company from Sun Microsystems, where he directed all service activities for the company's international subsidiaries. Previously, he held management positions with Radionics, a maker of computerized alarm systems, and with Diasonic Inc., a manufacturer of electronic medical equipment.
The Dell products that will be marketed in Czechoslovakia and Poland will be produced at the company's Limerick, Ireland, manufacturing facility which supplies personal computers and computer systems to the rest of Europe. Additionally, the new Dell subsidiaries will offer the same standardized pricing and volume discounts on Dell products that is currently offered to multinational customers throughout Europe.
Czechoslovakia and Poland are the thirteenth and fourteenth Dell international subsidiaries respectively. In addition to its wholly owned operating subsidiaries in those fourteen countries, Dell sells its products through selected value-added resellers, allowing the company to market its products in 70 countries around the globe.
A Fortune 500 company, Dell Computer Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports a complete line of personal computers compatible with industry standards.
