DELAWARE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER ISSUES CONSUMER ALERT
DELAWARE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER ISSUES CONSUMER ALERT DOVER, Del., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Insurance Commissioner David N.
Levinson today issued an alert to Delawareans that the Delaware Insurance Department has been informed that an unauthorized insurer, Atlantic Healthcare Benefits Plan, has resumed sales activities in Delaware.
According to Levinson, Atlantic Healthcare Benefits Plan was ordered in June 1991 to cease and desist from marketing health insurance products in Delaware. The organization is believed to be operating out of Virginia. "Unsuspecting health insurance consumers need to be aware of and understand that unauthorized (unlicensed) entities such as Atlantic Healthcare Benefits Plan operate outside the realm of our regulatory authority," Levinson stated. He went on to say that when policyholders pay premiums to unauthorized insurers, they place themselves at significant risk with payment of claims. Levinson said, "We appreciate the continued assistance from Delaware citizens who have often provided information to our office leading to the discovery of illegal insurance activities." When dealing with less-than-well-known insurers, prospective policyholders are encouraged to call the Delaware Insurance Department to verify that a company is licensed. Anyone with any information about or who has been contacted by Atlantic Healthcare Benefits should call the Delaware Insurance Department (800-282-8611, outside Kent County; 302-739-6775, Kent County; or 302-577-3120, Wilmington). -0- 7/21/92 /CONTACT: David N.
