DEL MONTE FOODS SUPPORTS EAST BAY FIRE VICTIMS
DEL MONTE FOODS SUPPORTS EAST BAY FIRE VICTIMS SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Del Monte Foods announced
today that it has donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross for assistance to victims of October's East Bay fire. This cash donation is the second part of Del Monte's fire relief efforts. While the fire was being fought on Monday, Oct. 21, Del Monte donated a truckload of products equalling more than 2,861 cases of fruit drinks, raisins, trail mix and dried fruit to assist firefighters battling the blaze.
"We wanted to provide immediate support to the firefighting effort and felt that, as a first step, a product donation would best serve the men and women working around the clock to put out the fire," said A. Ewan Macdonald, president and CEO of Del Monte Foods. "Now it's time to help the organizations assisting the many people suffering from the after-effects of the fire. The American Red Cross is an important link when this type of event occurs, and we are pleased to be able to support its efforts." This tragedy directly impacted five Del Monte employees and retirees, who lost their homes in the fire. Many more were evacuated or put on alert during the blaze. Del Monte Foods is an independent, privately held company headquartered in San Francisco. The company manufactures and markets food beverage products under the Del Monte brand name. -0- 11/21/91 /CONTACT: DeeAnn Campbell of Del Monte Foods, 415-442-5034/ CO: Del Monte Foods ST: California IN: FOD SU: DG -- SF009 -- 6161 11/21/91 19:07 EST
