DEISE WILL REGRET IT!

Byline: PAT NOLAN

THE WATERFORD hurlers may struggle to justify their ousting of Michael Ryan, Ger Loughnane has warned.

Ryan resigned last Sunday afternoon after a meeting held by the players that morning finished with a majority voting against his term as manager being extended into a third year.

Ryan is set to break his silence on the issue on RTE's Championship Matters but Loughnane feels he has been hard done by.

He said: "For the talent he had while he was there, he definitely got the best out of that talent.

"When you compare the talent he had towards the talent that was there previously, that marquee forward line that they had. They have no marquee forward now but still they put up a terrific display.

"When you're not within a county you don't have the inside knowledge but I was very sorry for Michael because I regard him as a very genuine hurling man who was prepared to give everything for it. It's very disappointing to see him ousted in that way.

"I think they could have handled it a lot better. When there has been an ousting by players, where has it worked? Apart from the very first time in Cork, that was only time it worked.Youhadan epidemic of it after that. I haven't seen where it has worked anywhere. In fact, it has done an awful lot of damage because it has divided supporters and it takes a good while to get it back again."
