DEFENSE TECHNOLOGY EXPO DRAWS MORE THAN 1,400 ON FIRST DAY

 DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 1,400 Big Three auto company executives and suppliers attended the first day of an automotive technology exposition hosted by the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR) in Dearborn, Wednesday, Feb. 24.
 The advanced-technology program features some of the nation's latest defense technologies and includes more than 30 exhibits and over 70 technical presentations from research scientists representing various Army and selected Navy and Air Force laboratories.
 Exhibits include a display of virtual-reality prototyping from the U.S. Army's Tank-Automotive Command in Warren, Mich.; displays on energy and propulsion technology from the Army's Belvoir Research, Development & Engineering Center in Alexandria, Va., and a demonstration of biologically derived materials developed in a joint project between the Department of Agriculture and the Army's Natick Research, Development & Engineering Center in Natick, Mass.
 Subjects to be covered today include biotechnology fibers for composites; high-temperature/high-power electronics; electric vehicle power sources; global positioning systems, and robotics technology for intelligent mobility.
 The exposition is open to employees of the Big Three auto companies, their suppliers and invited guests, and concludes at 4 p.m. today. It is being held at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Field House.
