DEFENDER NOEL TO SKIPPER DEISE IN 2019.
Byline: PAT NOLAN
LONG-SERVING defender Noel Connors is to captain the Waterford hurlers in 2019.
Connors's appointment is the first significant call made by new manager Paraic Fanning and he succeeds Kevin Moran, the De La Salle man who excelled in the role after lifting the Allianz League trophy in 2015 and leading the team to the 2017 All-Ireland final.
Connors (left) has just completed his 10th season of inter-county senior hurling having been called up by then manager Davy Fitzgerald straight from the minor grade for the 2009 campaign and claimed All-Stars in 2010, '15 and '17, as well as winning a Munster Championship in 2010 and League title five years later.
Appropriately enough, the 28-year-old recently completed a PhD at WIT on 'self-identified leaders and their autodidact practices' having spent nine years at the college.
Waterford are in action in the Munster SHL against Cork in Mallow tonight (7.30pm).
