DEDICATED REFERENCE STATIONS ENSURE DGPS ACCURACY FOR REAL-TIME APPLICATIONS

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble Navigation Ltd. (NASDAQ: TRMB) today announced the availability of real-time capability for its original GPS Pathfinder Community Base Station(TM) (PFCBS(TM)), and a completely new Universal Reference Station(TM) (URS(TM)).
Pathfinder Community Base Station Transmits Real-Time Corrections
The PFCBS is a stationary GPS system designed for use with Trimble's portable GPS Pathfinder receivers. The automated system uses a six-channel GPS receiver that tracks up to eight satellites simultaneously. The PFCBS provides both real-time and post-processed differential GPS corrections of field data files to the two- to five-meter range. When attached to an optional modem and radio, the PFCBS system transmits RTCM SC-104 standard corrections which allows roving receivers to log positions that are differentially corrected in real-time. Logged files are named and stored in convenient one-hour segments. The system may be programmed to start and stop at specified times and days. The PFCBS system includes a GPS receiver, antenna, cable, power supply and base station software. An optional configuration includes PFINDER(TM) GPS processing software and a 486 DX2, 66 Mhz computer.
Univeral Reference Station Offers Greater Accuracy
The new URS is a multi-purpose GPS reference station that supports real-time and postprocessed applications. It consists of a powerful software suite, an optional high-precision GPS receiver and an optional multi-tasking computer. For applications that require greater accuracy, the URS system records data from all GPS satellites in view. This includes pseudoranges, carrier-phase and ephemeris data to provide for all GPS processing activities from centimeter-level static surveys to meter-level, mobile mapping. Remote users can access data in a range of formats to suit their postprocessing software.
URS Software Enables Efficient System Administration
The software includes search, retrieval and billing functions for complete system administration and file management. Simple, clear reports of the numbers of users in a region can be produced, showing time, day and the ID of the user. Those users who charge for differential correction data can use the reports for billing purposes.
