DECORATOR INDUSTRIES INC. SEES FURTHER SHARP GAINS IN SECOND QUARTER PROFIT

DECORATOR INDUSTRIES INC. SEES FURTHER SHARP GAINS IN SECOND QUARTER PROFIT
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Decorator Industries Inc. (AMEX: DII), which saw its net income soar in the first quarter, projects another large increase for the second quarter.
At the conclusion of its annual meeting, Earl Rappaport, chairman, said that he expects the company to more than triple last year's net income of $160,000.
Rappaport said that the same factors that led to the sharp rise in first quarter net are still in place. "As a leading supplier of draperies, bedspreads and other accessories to the manufactured housing, recreational vehicles and motel/hotel markets, we have benefitted from a significant upturn in business from our customers as those markets have improved. Actually, our sales into the hotel/motel market were flat at the start of the year, but have shown increasing strength lately."
Additionally, he cited an increase in profit margins resulting from a very focused cost reduction program. "During the last two years we closed and consolidated three plants, increased the efficiency of our production labor and decreased our working capital costs by improving our management of accounts receivable and inventory. These efforts continue, and are intended to make us the lowest cost producer in our field.
"Decorator Industries has been in the business of making draperies for a long time, almost 40 years. However, when we analyze our sales, almost two-thirds of the business today comes from markets and areas that we were not selling more than six years ago. That's because of the acquisitions we have made. In fact, we would like to make another acquisition. We certainly are ripe for it...financially and structurally, but it would have to be meaningful...something that would take us into a market or area we are not currently serving.
"Presently, we are quite busy. Sales have continued to improve and should be up more than 20 percent in the second quarter compared to a year ago. We believe our markets will remain strong over the balance of this year, and with the continued improvement in the general economy, on into next year. With our costs in line, we should be able to achieve record earnings."
