DEBITEL ACQUIRES TALKLINE NEDERLAND.

The German telephony group Debitel is to acquire the Dutch subsidiary of the third German mobile telephony operator Talkline, controlled by the German TDC group (formerly Tele Danmark). Financial details of the deal have not been revealed. The acquisition will permit Debitel's Dutch subsidiary and Talkline Nederland to achieve synergies, enabling the new group to record significant growth in margins and profits. Talkline Nederland posted turnover of Euro 180 million in 2000 and serves 160,000 clients. The group will be integrated in its entirety into Debitel Nederland, which reported turnover of Euro 349 million in 2000 and has 1.3 million subscribers. The deal, which has still to be authorised by competition authorities, should be concluded in November, according to Debitel. The German press recently suggested that Debitel was keen to acquire the entire Talkline group, which has been on the market since May. The group has declined to comment on these suggestions...JJ:(AFP)
