DEANO BLOW HURTS TOWN; Three-game ban from FA.

Byline: Doug Thomson Football Writer doug.thomson@examiner.co.uk

HUDDERSFIELD Town will be without influential midfielder Dean Whitehead for the first three matches of next season.

The 34-year-old has been hit with a Football Association charge of violent conduct.

It follows a clash with Brentford's Nico Yennaris during the final Championship game of the season at the John Smith's Stadium last Saturday, when both players were booked.

The FA announced Whitehead's suspension after viewing the match video. The 81st-minute incident was not seen by the match officials, with Whitehead subsequently charged under FA Law 12.

Town have accepted that charge and will not appeal.

They say Whitehead will also be subject to the club's internal disciplinary procedures. Signed from Middlesbrough during last summer, Whitehead made 36 appearances during a season which was interrupted by a knee injury.

The former Stoke City player also skippered Town in Mark Hudson's absence and is popular with the John Smith's Stadium faithful.

Head coach David Wagner has other midfield options in Jonathan Hogg and Philip Billing.

The club have just taken up an option to extend Hogg's contract through to next summer.

Next season's fixtures will be announced on June 22.
