 DAYTON'S, HUDSON'S AND MARSHALL FIELD'S INTRODUCES NEW,
 ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE PRODUCTS
MINNEAPOLIS, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Department Store Division of Dayton Hudson Corporation (NYSE: DH), which consists of 62 Dayton's, Hudson's and Marshall Field's stores, has announced they will launch a new, biodegradable line of apparel called Higgins Natural. This environmentally safe apparel, which will be available exclusively at selected Dayton's, Hudson's and Marshall Field's stores beginning in April 1992, consists of a variety of men's and women's sportswear styles in jersey and 100 percent cotton fleece.
Developed by Tom Higgins and his research team, the process used to create the Higgins Natural apparel eliminates the use of unsafe or environmentally unfriendly chemicals in the production of cotton knit fabrics. This process has eliminated the use of petro-chemicals and PVA (Poly Vinyl Acetate) in the various stages of knit production which includes spinning, knitting and finishing. Higgins Natural products use only naturally pigmented cotton fibers and a bi-functional dye process which is safer than vegetable dyes, thus sharply reducing the discharge of harmful pollutants into the water system. All hangtags on each of the Higgins Natural garments and packaging materials are produced on 100 percent recycled paper.
Another all natural offering available in the home textiles departments of select Dayton's, Hudson's and Marshall Field's is Utica brand "Simply Cotton" sheet sets. Constructed from undyed, untreated and unbleached 100 percent combed cotton, "Simply Cotton" sheet sets offer 200 threads per square inch quality and are packaged with a fitted bottom sheet, a flat top sheet and two pillow cases. Every set comes boxed in plain brown cardboard, with a label made from recycled paper. "Simply Cotton" sheet sets are available in four sizes; twin size sets which sell for $39.99, full size sets for $69.99, queen sets for $84.99 and king sets for $99.99.
