DAY RUNNER(R) INC. DEBUTS INTEGRATED ORGANIZERS AND PLANNERS AT NOPA
New Products Combine the Power of Texas Instruments Electronics
 and the Convenience of Paper
NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Day Runner (NASDAQ: DAYR) today announced details of three new products which integrate the most popular features of electronic and paper-based organizers.
Working prototypes of Day Runner's Personal Organizer with TImeRunner(TM) and the Executive Weekly with Data Bank are on display at the National Office Products Association Show (NOPA). These integrated products were created under a cooperative development agreement with Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN). Also on view at NOPA is a Pocket Planner with Calculator of Day Runner's own design.
The two models of the Personal Organizer with TImeRunner will retail for suggested prices of $250 and $265 and will be shipped in the first quarter of 1993. The Executive Weekly with Data Bank and Pocket Planner with Calculator will carry suggested retail prices of under $100 and under $30 respectively. Day Runner plans to ship both in the final quarter of 1992.
"Day Runner and Texas Instruments started from scratch and engineered products which are more than the sum of their parts," commented Mark Vidovich, chairman and chief executive officer of Day Runner. "The synergy of their design offers extraordinary power in sleek, lightweight packages."
Texas Instruments, under the cooperative development agreement, is creating a series of organizing products that will carry the Day Runner name. The companies will leverage their brand names through cooperative labeling and merchandising, but will market separate products.
 Personal Organizer with TImeRunner
Unprecedented power and portability describe the new Personal Organizer with TImeRunner. By virtue of its wafer-thin TImeRunner unit by Texas Instruments, the Personal Organizer is lightweight and just 1 1/2-inch thick.
Attached to an innovative hinged panel, the TImeRunner swings out so users can consult it and paper sections simultaneously. When space is at a premium, consumers can access the TImeRunner by folding it flat against the outer cover of their closed book.
Like Day Runner's paper sections, the TImeRunner is intuitively easy to use. Less that three-sixteenths of an inch thick, the unit offers an array of useful features:
-- Spacious 32K memory holds approximately 1,000 entries
 -- Customized phone/address lists
-- Easy-to-remember key words for retrieving information
-- World time zones, 100-year calendar, 10-digit calculator
-- Password protection for confidential entries
-- Optional Memory Module for insurance against information loss
The Personal Organizer with TImeRunner is covered in leather-like Madrid vinyl and comes in two page sizes: 5 1/2 inches-by- 8 1/2 inches and 3 3/4 inches-by-6 3/4 inches. Paper sections complement electronic functions:
-- Monthly Dated Calendar for overview of activities
-- Today pages for noting tasks and appointments
-- Tabbed Notes, Contacts, Finances, To Do and Meeting Sections
-- Receipt envelope, business/credit card holder, zip pouch
 -- Grid pad and pen
-- Accepts Classic and Running Mate Refills
 Executive Weekly with Data Bank
Day Runner is also premiering the simple, but effective, Executive Weekly with Data Bank in Madrid vinyl. This compact, loose-leaf planner has a built-in Texas Instruments Data Bank and a Post-it(TM) notes pad. Features include:
-- Electronic storage of phone list and key dates
-- Convenient data entry and easy editing
-- Reminder alarms to prompt tasks and appointments
-- Calculator and display for day, date and time
-- Refillable Post-it(TM) notes dispenser and binder
-- 3-Tab Planning System and note pad
 -- Accepts Running Mate Refills
The basis of the new integrated products was research compiled independently by each company showing that consumers preferred electronic organizers for compactly storing long-term information such as addresses and phone numbers. Consumers were reluctant, however, to give up the familiar look and feel of their paper-based organizers which they favored for writing down oft-revised lists and schedules and for the convenient overviews of appointments provided by paper-based calendars.
Also on display at NOPA is Day Runner's own Pocket Planner with Calculator. It features a solar-powered calculator and a calendar, A-Z directory, business/credit card holder, note pad and pen.
Day Runner is the leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of paper-based personal organizers for the retail market. The company markets four lines of personal organizers, six planners and a wide variety of refills and accessories. Day Runner's products are carried by more than 6,000 retail stores across the United states, and its Day Runner System line of personal organizers is the nationwide best-selling line of paper-based organizers through retail stores.
