DAY RUNNER(R) APPOINTS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 FULLERTON, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Day Runner Inc. (NASDAQ: DAYR) today announced that its board of directors has appointed James E. Freeman Jr., 45, to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Freeman was the president and chief operating officer of Stuart Hall Co. Inc., an office and school products supplier, from 1986 until its acquisition by Newell Co. in mid-1992.
 "We're very pleased that Jim is joining Day Runner," said Mark Vidovich, chairman and chief executive officer. "Jim is a seasoned, knowledgeable executive. We believe his extensive experience in the mass market will be particularly helpful, and we expect him to play a key role in further expanding Day Runner's presence in this channel."
 As chief operating officer, Freeman will be responsible for Day Runner's sales, marketing, product development, manufacturing operations, distribution and customer service, and consumer affairs functions. He will assume his duties on March 8, 1993.
 Freeman joined Stuart Hall in 1986 as president and chief operating officer. In that position, he had overall responsibility for manufacturing, distribution, finance and sales.
 Since Newell Co.'s acquisition of Stuart Hall, Freeman has been employed by New Product Insights, an Overland Park, Kan.-based marketing consulting firm with clients including Sprint, Sara Lee, and other packaged goods companies.
 Prior to joining Stuart Hall, he held various senior level positions at companies including The Thermos Corp., Pillsbury, Ore-Ida Foods and Procter & Gamble. His background includes extensive marketing, sales and management experience.
 Freeman received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Drake University in 1969 and attended the Executive Masters Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University during 1981 and 1982.
 Day Runner is the leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of paper-based personal organizers for the retail market. The company markets three lines of personal organizers, six planners and a wide variety of refills and accessories. Day Runner's products are carried by more than 7,000 retail stores across the United States, and its Day Runner System line of personal organizers is the nationwide best-selling line of paper-based organizers though retail stores.
