 of Math Problems
 TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Davidson & Associates Inc. (NASDAQ: DAVD) today began shipping "Math Blaster: In Search of Spot," a major upgrade of the world's best-selling "New Math Blaster Plus." Designed for children ages 6 to 12, this learning adventure game challenges players to help Blasternaut rescue Spot, a space character who has been captured by Blasternaut's enemy, the Trash Alien. This storyline is integrated into four math activities that focus on mental math, basic math facts and problem-solving.
 "Math Blaster: In Search of Spot" is immediately available in DOS format at most major computer and software retail chains nationwide for a suggested retail price of $59.95.
 Jan Davidson, president and founder of Davidson & Associates Inc., comments, "`Math Blaster: In Search of Spot' is our most significant upgrade to the `Math Blaster' series since it was introduced over 10 years ago. We are proud of the new brilliant, high-resolution graphics; digitized speech, clever sound effects; 3D effects; and breadth of math problem-solving areas covered. The multimedia aspect of `Math Blaster: In Search of Spot' offers a powerful way to engage children and enrich the learning process while teaching basic math facts."
 Software Highlights
 One of the major new features of "Math Blaster: In Search of Spot" is the addition of a strong storyline -- rescuing Spot from the Trash Alien who has captured him. To accomplish this mission, players must successfully complete four different math learning games. This storyline integrates all of the software's learning activities and makes "Math Blaster: In Search of Spot" compelling to play.
 Other key features of this new software include:
 -- New high-resolution graphics with special 3D effects;
 -- Lots of sound, including realistic sound effects, music, and digitized speech for each of the characters;
 -- Over 50,000 math problems at a variety of levels are possible (its predecessor, "New Math Blaster Plus," has 750 problems);
 -- Two ways to play: focus on the four individual activities -- Trash Zapper, Number Recycler, Cave Runner and Math Blaster -- or play them in succession with the goal of rescuing Spot;
 -- A new arcade-style game entitled Cave Runner to encourage problem-solving, mental math and critical-thinking skills;
 -- Two new subjects -- number patterns and estimation -- bringing the number of subject areas covered to nine. Already included are addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percents.
 - Improvements in the editor interface for easy customization of math data and problems.
 "Math Blaster: In Search in Spot" has a suggested retail price of $59.95. The DOS version is available now; a Windows version will be available later this fall. Upgrades for "New Math Blaster Plus" users are available from Davidson for $19.95 by calling 800-545-7677 or 310-793-0600.
 Teacher packs, lab packs and site licenses -- suggested retail- priced at $79.95, $169.95 and $69.95 respectively -- will be available in October 1993. These versions will include teacher materials such as lesson guides, recommendations for integrating the software into the curriculum, and suggestions for compliance with math standards set by the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics).
