DAVID MCMAHON TO HEAD CONSOLIDATED HARTMARX RETAIL GROUP
CHICAGO, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- David R. McMahon has been named president and chief executive officer of the newly formed Hartmarx Retail Group, announced Harvey A. Weinberg, chairman and chief executive officer of Hartmarx Corp. (NYSE: HMX).
Weinberg said the Hartmarx Retail Group was formed to consolidate certain operations of Hartmarx Specialty Stores, Inc., and Kuppenheimer Men's Clothiers. The new retail group will comprise 373 stores, including 150 Kuppenheimer stores.
McMahon has been president and chief executive officer of Kuppenheimer since 1984. He joined the parent company in 1981 as vice president of operations for specialty stores and has also served as executive vice president of the Hartmarx Special Stores Inc.'s Eastern region. Prior to joining the company, McMahon held positions with Allied Stores, Woodward and Lothrop, and the May Company.
McMahon, who will be based in Chicago, will report to Elbert O. Hand, president and chief operating officer of Hartmarx Corp. Hand noted that the consolidation of the two retail units is expected to provide major cost savings for the company. "While the merchandising and marketing strategies will remain separate and distinct, consolidation of major operational functions will be key to positioning the Hartmarx Retail Group to compete in today's competitive arena," Hand said. "These changes will lower our breakeven points and position

us to become profitable in the current economic environment."
The company will announce more detailed plans later this month, Weinberg said.
Hartmarx Specialty Stores Inc. was formerly headed by John Eyler, who resigned to pursue other interests.
Hartmarx Corp. is the nation's leading retailer and manufacturer of quality men's and women's apparel.
