DAVIC STUDENTS GUESTS OF ITT AUTOMOTIVE AT DETROIT GRAND PRIX
DETROIT, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of students from the Detroit Area VICA Industry Council (DAVIC) will learn about Grand Prix racing firsthand Friday, June 5, as they join ITT Automotive engineers on the all-new Belle Isle Detroit Grand Prix course.
More than 100 students and their instructors have been invited to the island by ITT Automotive, title sponsor of the 1992 Detroit Grand Prix. They will participate in tours of the pit and paddock areas, have the chance to speak with drivers and their crews, and have lunch with ITT Automotive personnel.
"The ITT Automotive Detroit Grand Prix provides an excellent opportunity for the students to get a behind-the-scenes look at one of the top IndyCar races in the country," said Gerald M. Jusco, vice president for corporate and industry relations at ITT Automotive.
All of the students are studying automotive-related trades at Detroit's Golightly Vocational Technical Center and Breithaupt Vocational Technical Center.
"Community involvement and education are two of our top priorities, so it's logical we would use our sponsorship of the Detroit Grand Prix to provide an educational opportunity for Detroit youth," Jusco said.
DAVIC allows students to have direct contact with employers and involves the community in the education process through well-defined, structured programs.
"Involvement with DAVIC is an excellent investment for us," Jusco said. "The program provides relevant vocational programs taught by effective educators and develops skilled workers for industry, and jobs for graduates."
