DAVE RAVE; Watford 5, Ashford 0.

David Connolly, substituted last week and relegated to the bench for this FA Cup tie, came on as substitute to hit a hat-trick in 14 minutes.

But Connolly, celebrating his third hat-trick of the year, stressed: "I do not have to prove anything at this level. I have proved my point at a higher level, with my international goals," said the 19-year-old Irish ace.

Connolly struck in the 76th, 81st and 89th minutes to complete his trio after two goals from Darren Bazeley had all but ended Ashford's dream's of glory. "We are pretty disappointed," admitted Ashford's Andy Morris. "The second and third goals proved our undoing. We were in possession on both occasions and just gave the ball away."

Watford boss Kenny Jackett was delighted with the partnership of Connolly and 16-year-old Gifton Noel-Williams. "I put them together for the last half-hour to see how they worked together," he said.
