DAUGHTER'S HEADSTONE HEARTACHE; UNMARKED GRAVE Fundraising appeal for tribute to 'mum' Headstone heartache.

Jackie Grant A Dumfries woman is appealing for help to pay for a headstone to mark her mum's grave.

Nicola Craig died from cancer, aged just 37, in November, 2015, when her daughter Courtney was 17 and son Finlay aged just two.

Since then Courtney has been devastated not just at the loss of her "best pal" but also because she hasn't been able to afford to buy a headstone for Nicola.

She said: "It breaks my heart having to go to the cemetery and there's no headstone for mum."

Last week, her friend Charmaine Yard set up a fundraising appeal in a bid to get Nicola "the headstone she deserves".

Charmaine said: "As one of Courtney's best friends, I was lucky to know Nicola personally.

"She was one of the most beautiful people you could ever meet and would do anything for anyone.

"Nicola was buried at St Michael's alongside her father Thomas but doesn't have a headstone.

"Courtney has been struggling with not being able to get this for her mum and would be so grateful if everyone could help.

"I would love for this weight to be lifted from her shoulders and for her and her family to have somewhere to mark her mum's final resting place."

Courtney, a support practitioner for Richmond Fellowship, thought she'd be able to save money from her wages every month for the headstone but said: "It's not easy when you've got rent and bills to pay.

"I thought I'd be able to afford it myself some day but time is going by and I'm getting nowhere.

28 "I'm quite a private person and didn't want people to think this fundraising effort was scrounging money from people but when Charmaine told me what she wanted to do, I thought it was the only way it was going to happen."
