DATAWARE TECHNOLOGIES SHIPS CD-ROM PUBLISHING FOR JAPANESE MARKET
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Kanji-version CD-ROM authoring and retrieval software that supports several Japanese operating environments is now available from Dataware Technologies, Inc.
With the addition of the kanji version, Dataware Technologies offers 13 language capability and the most complete international CD-ROM software available to publishers, corporations and government agencies. Kurt Mueller, president of Dataware Technologies, said, "The addition of a kanji user interface and data retrieval capability makes Dataware's CD Answer Retrieval Software the first truly global software for CD-ROM. The advantages of a single product which can be accessed with a culturally sensitive user interface is now available in Europe, the U.S. and now Japan. This will help publishers, corporations and government agencies save money, improve productivity and open new markets for CD-ROM products."
The CD Answer retrieval software has been enhanced to include a kana-kanji character user interface which supports the IBM Japanese DOS and NEC Japanese DOS operating environments. The CD Author Development System has been enhanced to include the reading and indexing of Japanese kana-kanji characters. This means that a developer can use a single integrated system to develop an English database on CD-ROM that can then have a kanji user interface compatible for use in the Japanese markets. The technical challenge has been achieved using the same CD-ROM on a U.S. DOS-based machine that also works in the Japanese DOS environment thus saving publishers the cost of re-replication of discs and the unnecessary handling and administrative burden normally associated with entering a new market.
The Dataware kanji-based authoring software streamlines the development process and provides publishers with a faster access to the market and thus a quicker return on their investment. With the ability to enter new markets, publishers gain a competitive edge and are the first to open and gain profits from these global activities. The software also will allow a developed CD-ROM disc to be accessed by other operating systems and machines such a Macintosh, Sun Unix, HP/UX and OS9, the Compact Disc Interactive (CD-1) multimedia hardware platform.
Dataware's software will also be incorporated into PC-based multimedia authoring systems offered by other third parties in the U.S., Europe and Japan, further providing information publishers worldwide the capability to create CD-ROM products rapidly with reasonable turnaround and cost for distribution in the global market.
Pricing for the new kanji capability in the Dataware software is available by contacting Dataware's headquarters in Cambridge.
