DATASCOPE SEES FLAT SECOND HALF

MONTVALE, N.J., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Datascope Corporation (NASDAQ: DSCP) anticipates that net earnings from operations in the second half of its current fiscal year will approximate that of last year. The company believes that hospitals are reducing purchases of intra-aortic balloon catheters during this period to lower inventories in response to the uncertainty about impending changes in government policy toward health care. At the same time, the company's distributor of its intra-aortic balloon pump products in Japan is reducing its forecasted purchases for the balance of the fiscal year. While the distributor has now reached its targeted market penetration, this took more time than they projected and resulted in a buildup of inventory that is now being reduced. The company expects that sales of its other products will continue strong during its second half.
Datascope Corporation is a manufacturer of proprietary products for clinical health care markets in interventional cardiology, anesthesiology and cardiovascular and vascular surgery.
