DATASCOPE REPORTS STRONG OPERATING RESULTS FOR FISCAL 1992

DATASCOPE REPORTS STRONG OPERATING RESULTS FOR FISCAL 1992
MONTVALE, N.J., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Datascope Corp. (NASDAQ: DSCP) today reported net earnings, excluding non-recurring items, rose 42 percent in the fiscal year ended June 30, 1992, to $11.8 million compared with $8.3 million in the previous year, equivalent to 72 cents per share versus 53 cents per share, respectively. Consolidated sales in fiscal year 1992 rose to a record $156.5 million, 16 percent above last year.
Net earnings in fiscal year 1992 totaled $7.7 million or 47 cents per share after applying previously announced non-recurring expenses of $4.1 million after-tax, or 25 cents per share comprised of $2.4 million after-tax, or 15 cents per share, related to suspension of Angioplasty Division operations and $1.7 million after-tax, or 10 cents per share, related to termination of a distributor in Japan. Fiscal year 1991 included non-recurring net income of $0.3 million or $0.02 per share, resulting from settlement of a patent suit.
The company said its strong operating performance reflects worldwide growth of its core businesses represented by the Cardiac Assist and Patient Monitoring Divisions. Increased shipments of intra-aortic balloon catheters and pumps to Japan resulting from a new and stronger distributor made a substantial contribution to higher international sales of balloon pump products.
The company announced it would introduce and begin shipping a new intra-aortic balloon pump, the System 95, during the current quarter. The System 95, an advanced balloon pump that replaces the System 90, is expected to support Datascope's market leadership in new pump sales as well as promote greater replacement pump sales.
In Patient Monitoring, the company's Passport(TM), representing a new class of portable, battery-powered, multi-function patient monitors, began shipping in the second quarter of fiscal year 1992 and has rapidly become Datascope's fastest growing monitor product, making a large contribution to sales and growth of the monitoring division. In the fourth quarter, the company added the Passport EL with an electroluminescent display to its original Passport model with liquid crystal display. The company believes that Passport sales are now growing faster than sales of any competitive product in the United States.
Datascope Corp. is a manufacturer of proprietary products for clinical health care markets in interventional cardiology, anesthesiology and cardiovascular and vascular surgery.
