 DATAKEY NAMES COX SALES AND MARKETING DIRECTOR
 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Datakey, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: DKEY)


announced today that Gerald L. Cox has joined the company as director of sales and marketing. In this position, Cox will be responsible for worldwide sales and market development activity, reporting to company president, Michael A. Carenzo.
 Cox comes to Datakey with more than 20 years of electronics industry experience, which includes both sales and operations management. Prior to joining Datakey, he served as vice president of international sales for CPT Corporation, where he managed an $18-million international sales operation. Earlier, he served as vice president of sales and manufacturing for CPT. Cox also served as president of Avnet Computer Technologies, Inc. (ACTI), a dealer of value-added computer products and $70 million subsidiary of Avnet, Inc. Before ACTI, he worked for Hamilton/Avnet Electronics in various sales and marketing management positions.
 "Jerry brings strong business development experience to Datakey. This is particularly vital as we undertake new programs to broaden our commercial business base," said Carenzo. "His experience in building successful sales teams and developing new markets will give an important focus to our plans as Datakey expands its sales coverage and explores new opportunities both domestically and internationally."
 Cox has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Cleveland State University. He completed additional coursework in electrical engineering at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland and has technical certifications from several major electronics manufacturers.
 Datakey, Inc. designs, produces and markets specialty-class portable data carriers in the form of keys, cards and custom-shaped devices to OEMs in an applications-oriented marketplace. These small, semiconductor-memory-based, portable devices serve as a convenient way to provide machine-readable information for use in a variety of microprocessor-based equipment. The company's portable data devices are packaged to withstand the adverse elements found in transportable human environments. Datakey also designs, produces and markets supporting peripheral equipment for these portable data carrier devices. Shares of Datakey's common stock are traded on the NASDAQ-NMS under the symbol DKEY.
