DATAKEY ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN
MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Datakey, Inc. (NASDAQ: DKEY)

announced today that Michael A. Carenzo has joined the company as president, reporting to former president John H. Underwood, who has now added chairman of the board to his responsibilities as chief executive officer. Underwood replaces outgoing chairman William Flies, who resigned from Datakay's board to serve as chairman of Xata Corporation.
The two men will jointly manage the company, with Carenzo concentrating on external growth challenges and Underwood managing internal operations along with his new responsibilities as chairman. "We're pleased to welcome Michael Carenzo to Datakey," said Underwood. "His experience in the components industry and understanding of both international and domestic markets will provide a sharper focus to our business. These changes are designed to position Datakay for accelerated growth in the global marketplace and to strengthen the business base that the company has already established as the leading U.S. supplier of portable data carriers."
Carenzo joins Datakey from DuPont, where he held a number of key management positions within the company's electronics group for the past 20 years. He most recently served as director of DuPont's Printed Circuit Materials Division, a leading worldwide supplier of materials, chemicals and systems to the printed circuit board industry and the largest division in DuPont's $2 billion electronics group. Other positions that Carenzo held with DuPont included director of marketing and sales for the company's Connector Division, director of the Connectors Division Americas Operations and director of the Connectors, Products and Systems Division.
Carenzo is a graduate of American International College in Springfield, Mass., with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He and his family will relocate to Minneapolis from Hershey, Penn., and he will take up office residence at Datakay on March 1.
Carenzo now teams his management skills with those of Underwood, who joined Datakay in 1983 and was the company's president for the past nine years. Underwood has extensive experience with the design, production and marketing of electronic memories and memory-based products, including portable data carriers. His past experience includes 18 years in various capacities with CTS/Fabri-Tek, Inc., where he last served as general manager of the company's systems division in the United States and Hong Kong.
Datakey, Inc. designs, produces and markets specialty-class portable data carriers in the form of keys, cards and custom-shaped devices to OEMs in an applications-oriented marketplace. These small, semiconductor-memory-based, portable devices serve as a convenient way to provide machine-readable electronic information for use in a variety of microprocessor-based equipment. The company's portable data devices are packaged to withstand the adverse elements found in transportable human environments. Datakey also designs, produces and markets supporting peripheral equipment for these portable data carrier devices. Shares of Datakey's common stock are traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol DKEY.
