MINNEAPOLIS, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Datakey, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: DKEY) made announcements regarding two, major new customer and an expansion of its sales coverage at the company's annual meeting today.
Michael A. Carenzo, president, announced: "Datakey is now finalizing multi-year agreements with two, major new customers. One of the agreements is with Duncan Industries, a major subsidiary of Dover Corporation, a multi-billion dollar company. Under this contract, Datakey will supply a custom-designed microprocessor key and interface system for use in cashless parking meters offered by Duncan. This program is projected to generate minimum sales of $2 million over the next few years with deliveries beginning in the third quarter of 1993."
Carenzo added, "Datakey is finalizing an agreement with a leading supplier of shipping and weighing equipment. This customer will use an electronic rate change module from Datakey to update equipment installed worldwide when various postal and shipping rates change. Although we are still finalizing details, we have been informed by our customer that an initial order calls for 200,000 custom-designed modules over the next 12 months. We expect to finalize this agreement within the next 30 days."
In other matters, Carenzo said the company has signed a joint marketing agreement with Information Security Corporation, a supplier of high-end security software. The agreement provides specialized software support for Datakey's SignaSURE(TM) line of information security products. This product line is targeted for the fast-growing secure information market, which is one of Datakey's major, new efforts.
Carenzo also announced that Datakey has expanded its sales coverage into Asia via an agreement with Hakuto, a $500 million electronics distributor with sales engineers throughout Japan and other parts of Asia. The company has also added sales coverage in Korea, where it is now represented by Gain Systems, a systems integrator and reseller with a significant presence in that country.
Carenzo concluded, "All of these developments reflect initial progress in implementing the company's new growth plans. Both of our new customer programs hold significant, long-term potential for Datakey. We are also pleased to be represented by two, well-known sales organizations in the Pacific Rim. We expect new international business to help further improve revenue performance later this year. Datakey is committed to achieving profitable, long-term growth and we are encouraged by these developments, which we expect to be instrumental in returning the company to a solid growth mode."
