DATABEAM EXPANDING WITH $4 MILLION IN VENTURE CAPITAL
LEXINGTON, Ky., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- DataBeam Corporation

announced today it has secured $4 million in venture capital funding. The Company, privately held and based in Lexington, Ky., develops and markets electronic meeting software and systems products. The new capital will be used to expand the Company's cross platform communications strategy.
The expansion capital is being provided by several prominent investors including Frontenac Company, based in Chicago; J.H. Whitney & Co., based in New York; and Vanguard Associates, based in Palo Alto, Calif. While the Company is well beyond its start-up phase, the new investment dollars will allow DataBeam to greatly increase its technical and marketing staff, as well as foster the distribution of its interoperability products.
The Company has already experienced considerable growth. Financial reports for 1991 indicate it attained record revenue and profits for the year. Paul Starkey, CEO of DataBeam, said, "We continue to see high growth in the acceptance of our conference room products and are encouraged by the early response to our new desktop software products." The Company has major customers in government, aerospace and commercial market sectors. It licenses its software to Intergraph Corporation which is marketed under the CAD Conferencing brand.
DataBeam products allow their users to share computer bit map or raster information to interact with common documents, like spreadsheets, technical drawings, charts, graphs, reports, etc. These products provide interactive and visual teleconferencing, allowing presentation materials to be communicated as images in real time between two or more locations.
The Company's current communication products operate on PC based systems and Intergraph Clipper workstations. An announcement is expected in April regarding the release of their conferencing software for UNIX-based Sun SPARC workstations. The Company's cross-platform strategy is to provide a class of image conferencing products which allow different types of computer workstations to share meeting visuals even though they may not utilize common application programs or files.
DataBeam Corporation technology combines PC and UNIX software, image processing, data communications, and local area networking. Its communications protocol, which provides cross-computer operations, is considered to be the most standard in the industry. The Company currently supplies electronic meeting software and systems to customers in six countries.
