DATA SWITCH STREAMLINES ORGANIZATION

SHELTON, Conn., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- William J. Lifka, the newly appointed chairman, president and CEO of Data Switch Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: DASW), announced today a reduction in work force of approximately 10% of the company's employees. "This regrettable action was necessary to restructure the company to operate profitably at current revenue levels," Mr. Lifka said. "Despite revenue growth in 1993, the company's financial performance has been well below reasonable expectations, and this situation is unacceptable. We are examining business opportunities and alliances that will be most beneficial to the long-term health of the company and the return to shareholders," Mr. Lifka added. "We will release more details of our immediate plans in the months ahead."
As a result of this reduction in force, combined with a similar smaller action in October, the company will record reserves of approximately $1,800,000 for severance and related expenses in the fourth quarter of 1993.
Data Switch is a leading manufacturer of data center networking products for corporations worldwide.
