DATA SWITCH ELECTS TWO OUTSIDE BOARD MEMBERS

 SHELTON, Conn., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Switch Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: DASW) today announced the election of Norman L. Rasmussen, 64, and Brandt R. Allen, 53, to its board of directors. Mr. Rasmussen is president, chief executive officer and director of SofTech, Inc., a Boston-based computer systems integration firm. Dr. Allen is associate dean and professor at The Darden Business School, University of Virginia.
 "Mr. Rasmussen and Dr. Allen will add new perspective and experience to our board," said Richard E. Greene, Data Switch chairman. "Mr. Rasmussen, a 40-year veteran of the computer industry and former IBM executive, led the development of one of IBM's most commercially successful computer operating systems. He has also founded entrepreneurial technology companies and is frequently called on to advise government on technology directions and life cycles.
 "Dr. Allen has a tremendous academic background in the business and information technology fields. In addition to his teaching and management responsibilities at one of the country's well-respected business schools, he is a renowned author and consultant on information systems management."
 Mr. Rasmussen began his career at IBM in technical marketing. He founded the IBM Cambridge Scientific Center for applied systems research and


development, which produced the first commercial-grade, virtual machine operating system for mainframe computers. Mr. Rasmussen was also IBM's director of defense systems, Europe, with responsibility for developing the company's European defense systems marketing and systems- development capabilities.
 After leaving IBM, Mr. Rasmussen was co-founder and vice president of General Systems Group, a software consulting company. In 1980 he founded Teleprocessing, Inc., a systems integration firm.
 Mr. Rasmussen has been a director of SofTech since 1974 and its president since 1991. He is a member of the Massachusetts Governor's Industry Advisory Committee on Information Processing.
 Dr. Allen is the James C. Wheat Professor of Business Administration at The Darden School and is responsible for the school's Division of Executive Education. Before, joining the University of Virginia faculty, Mr. Allen was a professor at the Harvard Business School. Earlier, he was a research engineer with Boeing.
