DATA SCIENCES APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

 LONDON, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Sciences today announced the appointment of Andy Roberts as chief executive of the group. Andy was formerly managing director of ICL Mid-Range Systems with direct responsibility for North American sales and worldwide customer revenues of US$500 million. He is widely credited with ICL's successful move into the open systems market in the mid '80s and is chairman of the X/Open company.
 Aged 40, Andy Roberts is in every sense a young high-flyer in the European computing industry. His background covers extensive responsibilities in sales, marketing, systems integration, design and development of leading edge hardware and software technology products and services.
 In his new role as chief executive, Andy Roberts takes charge of all Data Sciences' worldwide operations: the UK based divisions of Finance and Retail, Command and Information Systems, Consultancy and Support Services, Datacentre Services and Northern Region, the European units of Netherlands and Germany and the Group's worldwide network of agents and distributors.
 Commenting on his appointment, Andy Roberts said: "Data Sciences is well positioned to exploit the new, emerging markets in client/server and open systems environments. We are a leader in the software and services sector, have tremendous technical and product assets, and sound, long term financial stability through our major shareholders CINVen and THORN EMI.  Andy Roberts is a graduate in engineering and a member of the Advisory Board of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Surrey University. He is director of Unix International, chairman of the Unix Systems Laboratory Software Technical Advisory Panel and was awarded the STC Corfield prize for Business Innovation.
 Andy Roberts is married with three sons, lives in Surrey, England and amongst his interests lists yachting, skiing and computers.
