DATA RESEARCH ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS

 ST. LOUIS, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Research Associates Inc. (NASDAQ: DRAI) announced today that earnings per share for its first quarter of 1994, which ended Dec. 31, were three cents, compared with six cents in the same period in fiscal 1993.
 Revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 1994 decreased 13 percent to $4.6 million, compared to $5.2 million in the same period a year ago. Data Research divides its revenue sources into the components of hardware, software, and service and other. For the first quarter, software revenues rose to $1.1 million, a 26 percent increase compared to $0.9 million in the first quarter of fiscal 1993. Service and other revenues rose to $2.2 million, a 71 percent increase compared to $1.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 1993. Hardware revenues fell to $1.2 million, a 60 percent decrease compared to $3.0 million in the first quarter of fiscal 1993. The first quarter of fiscal 1993 had included two large hardware sales.
