DASI INC. ANNOUNCES MID-YEAR RESULTS

SILVER SPRING, Md., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- DASI, Inc. (OTC) a licensor of ultra-pasteurization systems and the operator of a plant in Decatur, Ala., which processes extended shelf-life and other fluid products under contract for large food industry customers, today announced its preliminary results for the first half of 1993.
The company reported sales of $6,879,925 for the half year period. Net income was $448,456.
Dr. John Nahra, DASI's president, stated that this was the first half year period in which the company's operating income was in the black since DASI acquired its Decatur facility in 1991. The company also received revenues from the sale and license of a refurbished DASI system in Mexico.
Noting the negative impact of high interest charges on the company's results for the first half of 1993, Dr. Nahra stated that DASI's interest costs will fall sharply in the future. Accordingly, the company announced that, on July 30, 1993, South Trust Bank of Alabama refinanced $3.8 million of the senior debt of its DASI Products subsidiary, and that interest savings on the refinanced debt would, for the remainder of 1993, exceed $150,000.
The company also expects its operating results for the second half of 1993 to improve over those achieved in the first half of this year.
"Work we are now undertaking for our customers should result in fuller utilization of the Decatur facility, which should lift revenue and operating profit further for the remainder of 1993," said Dr. Nahra.
