DANIEL J. KRUMM, RETIRED MAYTAG CHAIRMAN AND CEO, DIES

 NEWTON, Iowa, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Daniel J. Krumm, retired Maytag chairman and chief executive officer, died of cancer this morning at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 67.
 Funeral services are pending at the First Lutheran Church in Newton.
 Mr. Krumm retired as Maytag's chairman Dec. 31, 1992, but had remained on the corporation's board of directors. His career at Maytag spanned 40 years, during which time he spearheaded the most dramatic period of growth in the company's 100-year history.
 Joining Maytag in 1952, Mr. Krumm held various assignments before becoming a vice president and member of the board of directors in 1970. He became executive vice president in 1971, and president and treasurer in 1972. In 1974, Mr. Krumm was elevated to chief executive officer, and he became chairman and CEO in 1986. He stepped down as CEO in April 1992, but he continued to serve as chairman until the end of last year.
 Over the years, Mr. Krumm was active in dozens of industry, civic and cultural organizations and he received numerous honors. He was named Executive of the Year by the National Management Association in 1991. Mr. Krumm was past chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers, and in December 1992 he was inducted into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame by the Greater Des Moines Committee.
 In addition to being a Maytag board member at the time of his death, Mr. Krumm also served as a director on the boards of The Principal Financial Group, Des Moines, Iowa, and Snap-On Tools Corp., Kenosha, Wis. Additionally, he served as a director of the former Centel Corp., Chicago. He was a past chairman of the board of trustees of Grand View College, Des Moines, and he also served on the board of directors of the University of Iowa Foundation.
 Born Oct. 15, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. Krumm spent most of his youth in Primghar, Iowa, and he graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
 Mr. Krumm is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, David of Ames, Iowa, and Timothy of Iowa City; a sister, Carol Towe of Ottawa, Canada, and five grandchildren.
