DANBURY SEARS STORE COMPLETES RENOVATION, HIGHLIGHTS APPAREL

 DANBURY, Conn., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Sears will be celebrating the expansion and renovation of its store in Danbury, with approximately l9,000 additional square feet allocated to the store's apparel departments for a new emphasis on apparel merchandising. Total sales floor space in the store is l04,000 square feet.
 A ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 9:30 a.m. as part of a grand reopening celebration.
 The store renovation is part of a five-year, $4 billion capital expenditure plan Sears announced earlier this year to upgrade and re-merchandise 500 stores over the next three years. The Danbury store, opened in l986, is among l35 stores scheduled by Sears for renovation this year. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
 "Our team is excited about our new lighter, brighter and more colorful department-store look," said Peter Davis, manager of the Danbury store. "This renovation and expansion of sales floor space will give us the ability not only to display our merchandise assortments more attractively, but also to make shopping a more pleasant experience for our customers."
 Regarding the emphasis on apparel merchandising, Davis added, "Sears has a great apparel story to tell."
 The women's apparel department alone will be increased by approximately l2,000 square feet, allowing an expanded assortment as well as updated displays for the Mainframe shop's junior apparel, women's sizes and other special offerings. Featured in "The Women's Store" are activewear, sportswear, intimate apparel, career wear, casual clothing, social occasion dressing, shoes and accessories.
 Men's apparel space was increased by 3,500 square feet. "The Men's Store" offers national brands in sportswear, activewear, furnishings and outerwear. These include Arrow, Lee, Levi's, Dockers, Body Glove, Cotler, Farah, John Weitz and Munsingwear.
 The store's popular Kids & More department, with 3,500 square feet added, offers a full line of children's apparel from sizes 0 to 20, infant furniture and accessories, and FunTronics shops featuring Sega and Nintendo games. Kids & More customers can choose among national brands such as Levi's, Lee, Dockers, OshKosh B'Gosh, Bugle Boy, Maverick by Wrangler, Reebok, and Sears franchise brands including Freeze Frame, MaxActive and Toughskins.
 In addition to the increases in sales floor space in women's, men's and children's departments, the family footwear department has been enlarged by l,000 square feet. The in-store location of all three departments changed.
 Features of the renovation designed to make the Danbury store a more comfortable and convenient place to shop include wider aisles, softer and more energy-efficient lighting, new carpeting and new merchandise display fixtures.
