RALEIGH, N.C., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Da Vinci Systems Corporation and Microsystems Software, Inc. (MSI) announced today that they have entered into a licensing and distribution agreement in which Da Vinci Systems will repackage and market MSI's CaLANdar group scheduling product under the name of Da Vinci CaLANdar. Da Vinci CaLANdar is integrated with Da Vinci eMAIL and will begin shipping by the end of May 1993.
CaLANdar is an enterprise-wide, workgroup scheduling product which provides extensive people and corporate resource scheduling capabilities for PC users on LANs and WANs. It is available on both the DOS and Windows platforms and includes such features as public and private groups, RSVP, graphical busy views, customized appointment and task overlays, sophisticated resource management, alarm notification, electronic rolodex and message pad, in/out pegboard, and more. CaLANdar also offers customized reports as well as standard report routines by day, week, month, and by specified date ranges.
By adding the CaLANdar product to its portfolio, Da Vinci is meeting the needs of its eMAIL customers who desire calendaring capabilities integrated with eMAIL. "We are providing our eMAIL users the capabilities of the strongest group scheduling package on the market today," said Bill Nussey, president and CEO of Da Vinci Systems. "Electronic mail and group scheduling products typically go hand-in-hand on a network, and CaLANdar has the state-of-the-art features coupled with the ease-of-use our eMAIL customers have come to expect."
"Because Da Vinci CaLANdar is integrated with eMAIL and supported by Da Vinci Systems," he continued, "our eMAIL customers will have the benefits of a single vendor solution while also reaping the benefits of a modular environment and the expertise provided by two vendors specialized in their markets."
By OEM'ing the CaLANdar product to Da Vinci, MSI gains access to one of the largest installed bases of electronic mail users. "We are excited about our partnership with Da Vinci," said Scott Benson, president of MSI. "We chose to do this agreement with Da Vinci because of their leadership position in the MHS electronic mail market and because of their large installed base of eMAIL users who are hungry for an integrated group scheduling product."
Another benefit of the agreement is that MSI's product gains access to Da Vinci's worldwide network of distributor and reseller channels as Da Vinci CaLANdar. MSI has traditionally sold CaLANdar directly to the end-user market. "With the channel exposure Da Vinci will give CaLANdar, the product can now reach a broader user base and a wider geographical market," said Benson.
Currently, the products are integrated so that an eMAIL user receives an eMAIL message anytime someone schedules an appointment for them. The eMAIL message notifies the user of the date and time of the scheduled appointment. The companies have plans to integrate the two products more tightly on the administrative and end-user level in future releases.
Da Vinci CaLANdar will be available at a special introductory price of $149 for a 10-user pack during the months of May and June only.
