D.R. HORTON, INC. REPORTS SECOND QUARTER NEW SALES ORDERS INCREASE OF 94 PERCENT AND BACKLOG INCREASE OF 79 PERCENT

 ARLINGTON, Texas, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- D.R. Horton, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRHI) today reported a 94 percent increase in net sales contracts signed during the second quarter ended June 30, 1993, over the same period of 1992, and the highest quarterly sales in the company's history. During the second quarter of 1993, net sales contracts signed totaled $88.1 million (541 homes) compared to $45.3 million (286 homes) for the same period in 1992.
 The company's backlog of homes under contract at June 30, 1993, increased 79 percent to a record $126 million (717 homes) from $70.5 million (454 homes) at June 30, 1992.
 Donald R. Horton, chairman and president, said, "D.R. Horton, Inc. continues to outperform the industry as proven by our record second quarter sales performance and backlog. New sales orders improved significantly over the prior year in each of the last three months. The company is well-positioned for the second half of 1993 with a record high backlog of homes under contract. In addition, we should begin to see significant new sales order contributions from our new operating divisions in the next few quarters."
 D.R. Horton, Inc. is engaged in the construction and sale of high- quality, single-family homes with custom features designed principally for the entry-level and move-up markets in the mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southeast, Southwest and Western regions of the United States.
